Carbonation problem

CO2 use is climbing

If cylinders empty faster than production explains, gas is probably leaving the tank or the system without dissolving.

What you are seeing

Gas costs rise, cylinders run out early, and you can hear or see gas venting from the top of the tank during carbonation.

Likely causes

  • Flow is set too high, so bubbles are large and rise straight through.
  • The stone is unsuitable, damaged or dirty.
  • Gas is vented instead of dissolved because tank pressure is managed by hand.
  • Leaks in fittings, regulators or lines.
  • Repeated over-carbonation followed by venting.

Checks to run first

  1. Leak-check the whole gas path with soapy water, including the regulator and the cylinder connection.
  2. Watch bubble size during a wetting test: fine bubbles dissolve, large ones escape.
  3. Note how often the tank is vented, and why.
  4. Track cylinder changes against litres carbonated.
Where FizzWizz helps

FizzWizz meters gas through the stone at a configured flow, with guidance based on stone and tank size, and its workflow warns that excess flow wastes gas out of the top of the vessel. Stopping at the calculated endpoint also cuts the venting that follows an overshoot.

Where it does not help

It controls gas after the supply connection. It does not find or repair leaks in your supply, and it cannot make up for a stone that only produces large bubbles.

When to get help

If the gas path is tight and the stone tests well but use is still high, send us your batch sizes, flow settings and cylinder history.
